Just When You Think Life Is Getting A Little Boring...

Scott was bugging me last week about how much time I spend on facebook. He thought that because I was spending time there, that I was neglecting our blog. No, there just wasn't anything to blog about. Life has been pretty normal. Nothing exciting. Just...life.

So this weekend was our turn to clean the church building. We love to do this and bring the kids along so that they can learn to respect and work in the building that we worship in. They have a great time running around and emptying all the garbage cans into one big one on wheels. So the kids are running around and Scott and I are busy in another part of the building. I'm in a small classroom cleaning the chalkboard when a siren starts blaring. I rush into the hall and lights are flashing and a recorded voice starts instructing everyone to make their way to the nearest exit. We are the only ones in the building and I KNOW there isn't a fire or any other kind of emergency going on. I start running down the hall yelling, "PORTER!!!!"

I find three of my children outside in the cold with looks of terror on their faces. They were seriously freaked out. They had been playing in one of the rooms and my brilliant son decided to see what would happen if he pulled on the red leaver. Scott comes booking around the corner with Zoey in his arms and Regan, Hali and I all point to Porter. Scott was not happy. He whips out his phone and starts calling anyone he could think of all the while keeping an eye out for the fire trucks and police cars. Porter starts crying (probably cuz we'd been yelling at him) certain that the police were going to take him to jail.

Finally, someone from the Stake came over to turn it all off and told us that they had it programed so that it doesn't call the fire station. Whew. Just when I thought my son was mellowing out he has to go and pull a stunt like this. Sheesh.

When my Caeden was just learning to read, I took him to the church during the middle of the day to work on visiting teaching routes. I let them play in the nursery (just down the hall) while I worked in the clerks office. After about an hour, a police officer comes and knocks on the clerks door and asks if everything is ok. "Yup, we're fine - why do you ask?" "Well, we just got a 911 call from this location..." Turns out, right above the phone in the hallway, it says "In case of emergency, call 911." Caeden read the "call 911" part and decided to do it... Love the boys!
