I Always Love It When......

You get a call from your child's school and they tell you that your child has been hit in the head with a tennis ball and one of her pupils is smaller than the other and they think that she might have a concussion. Yeah, love those calls! So, I quickly call the doctor to get Regan in and call Scott to come home and then rush to the school to get Regan. They were playing baseball (only with a tennis ball and a racket) and she just got in the way of the ball that had just been hit by a boy and it hit her right above her eyebrow. She didn't have a concussion, but because she wears glasses, the injury was worse than if she didn't wear glasses. See, the ball hit the top of her glasses and shoved them right into her eye. So she got a really nice bump on her noggin and this lovely black eye.

Sorry that the picture is so blurry, but you get the point. That's not eyeshadow.

By the time I had gotten to the school to pick up Regan, there had already been several students who had rushed to the office because they had heard that Regan had her nose smeared across her face. Then we got a phone call last night from one of Regan's friends to see if she was OK. Rumors were spreading fast about how hurt she was! Sheesh, even in elementary school. Anyway, it'll be funny to see how things go in school today. I'm sure that Regan will get lots of attention! She'll probably get several hugs just for not being dead.

Regan's Birthday Dinner

I know this is more than a week late, but I totally forgot I even had this picture on our camera! Regan choose to go to the Mayan for her birthday. It's a restaurant here in Salt Lake that is really fun. They had a fire dancer and cliff diver's in their restaurant. We got a table right on the floor in front of the cliffs and the pool, so we had a great view.

The kids had a great time and Porter thought the fire dancer was the best part. Luckily, he's not into the I want to be a fire dancer when I grow up faze, yet.

This Can't Be Comfortable......

She's totally asleep. With Porter now in pre-school, Zoey's nap time has been very sporadic. Man, I wish I were that flexible!

I'm Published!

Well, sort of.

Not long after I entered into this wonderful world of blogging, I noticed on someone else's blog that they were turning their blog into a book. Genius! I HATE to scrapbook, too much mess and too many supplies involved for me. But to publish my blog? How great is that to keep memories! You get the whole story and the pictures to go with it! Fabulous! So, I've had plans to do this for a while and just never got around to it, but finally a couple of weeks ago, I decided it was time. So I have a book documenting the year 2007.

This is the inside title page.
This is just an example of how it looks inside.
For those of you interested, I went to blurb.com and used their FREE software. You can "slurp" your blog info into the book format, but it does require some tweaking. But it is so worth it! The book is kind of small, only because I didn't start blogging until September, but 2008's is gonna be big! Yeah!

Day Glow Soccer Man

Porter is finally old enough for Scott live vicariously through him! (I've been doing it for years with the girls!) We signed up Porter for outdoor soccer and of course, Scott got volunteered to be his coach. Tonight was his first game and I missed it! Regan had swimming at the same time. Bummer. But I'll be there on Saturday.

He looks so grown up. He's not such a baby anymore. Today he decided that he was done at his pre-school and was ready to go to the same school as the girls. Don't grow up too fast, bud. Mama wants you to stay little for just a tad longer!

Closet Makeover

Scott is such a good sport. I'm the one who gets the urges to do projects in the house, and he's usually the one who does all the work. So for a while now I've been urging Scott to put a closet organizer in Regan and Hali's room. They have totally out grown the dresser that they had. I'd do laundry and then have to pile the clothes on top of the dresser, because I couldn't fit it all in the drawers. And trust me, buying a second dresser wouldn't have worked either. There is simply no room. As it was, the dresser they had was inside the closet!

And here is the finished results!
I absolutely love it! It looks so much more organized and clean! More importantly everything fits and there's room for more! Hum. Maybe I need to go shopping.

Happy Birthday, Regan!

Regan turned 11 yesterday. This was a non-friend birthday party year, so we had the family over on Sunday for dinner and of course, cake and ice-cream. Or I should say ice-cream cake. Mmm. My favorite.

We will take her out for a special dinner, but we don't have an open night until tomorrow. Poor girl. Well, I guess this is spreading it out over several days!

Regan wasn't all that happy about this birthday. She really doesn't want to be any closer to being a teenager than she has to. She equates being a teenager with liking boys and at this point, she thinks they are all morons and not worth her time. I have to say I encourage this attitude. The longer we can put off the boy thing, the better. I keep telling her that she can't date until she's 16, so why worry about it now.

My little worry wart.

The New Carpet Smell....AHHH!

The most used room in our house is the Family Room. It has the TV, video games, and is right off the kitchen, so it tends to be the gathering place. It's also the most abused room in the house. No matter how much I yell at my kids to keep the food and drinks OUT of the room, there still seems to be a large number of stains that have mysteriously appeared over the years. I was vacuuming the room one day and thinking "why do I bother?" and thinking about December, when Hali gets baptized, and having a house full of people and being embarrassed by the state of my carpet. I really think that poor carpet was past the point of being saved by a good cleaning. Take a look for yourself:

It's even worse when you take the furniture out!
I love it when you can see right were the furniture was! So, I finally told Scott that we needed to get new carpet in the family room. Luckily, the room is surrounded by hardwood, so it was easy enough to just replace the carpet in that room alone. Here is the results!
We went darker and more plush. I hated the shaggy that we had before and wanted to go totally different. We upgraded the padding, too, so it's so soft. I just love to walk around on it with my bare feet.

I had to take a picture of Scott. It took forever for him to put the entertainment center back together! Course, he was dealing with the TV, X-box, Wii, DVD player, cable box and receiver, so I'm not surprised that it took a while. That's a lot of wires!
Here's the room put all back together again. I love it! It feels like a whole new room. When there was no furniture back in the room I kept feeling like we were moving into a new house. It was because of the new carpet smell.

LOVE IT! Now I just have to save up enough money to do the whole house!

I'm a Blogging Slacker.....

And I need to catch up!

Life has been a little crazy, what with three kids in two different schools, dance and swimming all happening now. So, I haven't been blogging on a regular basis like I usually do.

So a couple of weeks ago, Scott and I donated blood to the American Red Cross. It was my first time! Scott usually donates about once to twice a year and the Red Cross calls my mom on a regular basis, because she so good at donating! I've had such good examples, so I'm a little surprise that I've gotten to the ripe old age of "old" and have never donated blood for a good cause. I mean I've donated plenty of blood for "testing", what with four kids and a pituitary micoradonoma, so I've seen my fair share of needles. But I've never gotten around to donating blood.

So, I was a little nervous, but things went OK. The lady who stuck me was being observed by a superior so she was a little nervous, too and could have been a little more steady, but over all, not too bad. The lady giving blood next to me had a t-shirt on that said "Bite me" so we had a great discussion about the Twilight books.

Poor Scott, though. He had a different nurse than I did, who, by the way, was not being observed so she really has no excuse. I guess she had a hard time getting the needle in and hit his muscle first before she found the vein. This is the results:

And that was taken probably 4 to 5 days after the event. It's still pretty purple and sore. Poor guy.

Hali got to go to a birthday party on Friday night. Her friend, Kylee, had a mystery party where they got to dress up like their character. Gosh, why does that sound familiar? The mystery was about a Teen Pop Star, who had some money stolen from her and they had to figure out who did it. Hali's character was Cha Cha, the costume mistress. She was in charge of all 55 costume changes during the concert.

This is Cha Cha and Destiny, the newest Pop sensation.

A Small Pet Peeve

So, I just have to vent for a minute and I hope that none of you do this, so I don't have to get on you for it. But just last month or the month before, there was whole article about appropriate dress for church. And I may not always follow (I don't wear tights in the summer), I at least dress my children in dresses.

Lately, there has been this trend with little girls wearing leggings underneath a dress. And while I think that is adorable, (Hali has several pairs) I don't let her wear them to church. Leggings are NOT tights! At least one little girl every Sunday has a pair of legging, which in my definition means pants. Would you let your girl wear pants to church? I can understand if this were families who didn't come very often or didn't know better, but this is usually girls who are very active and their parents should know better. Today, it was a little girl, who's mother is a former YW Pres and Primary counselor and her father is currently in the bishopric. Come on, people. You should all think like me and know how to dress your children! Cuz, I'm perfect in this department. Trust me, I am.

Family Party

I'm a little late getting these up. Sorry! Last Sunday we had a little family birthday party for Zoey. We got her this cute Tinkerbell cake (no I didn't make it!).

Zoey had the funniest look on her face. It was like she was saying "Why are you all looking at me and singing?" She so didn't get it. She didn't even blow out her candles.
We even had Grandpa Vern there.
We are now trading off Sundays with Scott's siblings in having Grandpa Vern to our house for Sunday dinner. I'm really excited about this. We don't see him very often and my kids don't really know him or vice verse. Porter was so happy he was there. He was so looking forward to Grandpa Vern coming, that on Saturday night he got mad at us for eating dinner with out Grandpa! Silly boy.
