Last weekend was our second annual trip to St. George for Hali's dance competition. Grandma and Grandpa Law met us there again, and we love it when they come! Most of the time Hali just gets mom cheering for her in the crowd so this is great for her, when dad, siblings and grandparents are there.I think that the excitement of the trip threw these girls off their game, because they didn't do as well in this competition as they did their last. They took a third and fourth place. This was the first time that they realized what that meant. They were all really sad and some shed a few tears. It was a teaching moment for all us parents as we comforted our kids and told them how proud we were of them.
After the competition, we had some time to kill. Our girls were over pretty early in the day, but the older girls still had a lot of performing to do. We hung around the hotel for a while, but the kids were bugging us to go swimming even though it was FREEZING outside. I didn't want them to wear themselves out (like Hali did last year) and fall asleep before the dance studio's party, so we looked for something to do. We found a little museum with dinosaur fossils that was pretty close by.
Somewhere behind our kids is the only known imprint of a sitting dinosaur. In other words, a picture of a dinosaur's butt. The kids thought that was pretty funny.
Porter and a really big footprint.
That night around the pool, our dance studio had a party to celebrate our being in St. George. We had a great time!!! Christy (dance mom and booty shaker extraordinaire) brought her major karaoke set-up and Hali and her dance team performed a couple of songs, one of which was Dancing Queen by ABBA. It was the hit of the night. Several of us old dance mom's joined in and showed these youngins' how to really dance! I'm sure the party will be what these girls remember the most! Unfortunately, there were a lot of video cameras around, so there is incriminating evidence. I won't be able to forget.
