Nanny Shoes

Yesterday was the first day of school for my kids and since we were dealing with that pesky bug on Saturday, we had to do some of our school shopping after school. I was looking for some slip on canvas tennis shoes, but Hali just couldn't resist the "nanny shoes".
Nanny would be my grandmother on my mom's side. She passed away in 1993, while I was on my mission. We called her nanny, because she thought "grandma" made her sound old. My friends referred to her as my "leather grandma", because she had a pair of leather pants. And from this picture (sorry, the only one I have) you can see my Italian ancestry. I sure didn't get any, being the pale person I am, but my nanny (second from the left) sure looks Italian.
We were on our way to the Homecoming football game. My sister was up for Homecoming queen. You can thank me later, Ape, for letting this picture out on the world wide web!

Nanny was a very different kind of grandma. Whose grandmother wears leather pants? She worked for Disney as a buyer for quite a long time. I can remember as a kid, she would have her three granddaughter's spend the night at her house and we would do exercises with my nanny in a short little baby doll nightgown (complete with fur trimming), big fluffy slippers, and her hair in curlers with the plastic thing over it. Again, not your typical grandma. But we loved her! And she loved shoes! Big, metallic shoes.

And so far two of her great granddaughters seem to be following in her footsteps, wearing the same shoes! Elyse was the first and now Hali! My nanny would have LOVED Hali's shoes.
